Effects of Lehman Brothers Bankruptcy in the Philippines
When the issue of bankruptcy of one of America’s banking leaders Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. broke in the Philippines, many thought or even convinced that this would have an effect in our economy, in one way or another.
Soon after, banks representative including Metrobank and Banco de Oro admitted their banks have invested large sum of money with Lehman Brothers and in fact already filed loss provisions totaling to $94 million. Other banks also came forward and declared the extent of or possibility of debts with regards to their venture with the fallen investment giant.
More affected were beneficiaries of the popular Philam Life Insurance which is a subsidiary of American International Group (AIG), one of the largest insurance company in America. Since AIG already filed bankruptcy and was only bailed out by the U.S. Government from total collapse, there has been persistent rumors that Philam Life will be sold in a matter of months. These uncertainties made policy holders fear for their investment with the company up to the extent of some beneficiaries withdrawing their policies as disclosed by Philam Life.

Spy Camera Tricks, Be Careful Girls!
At Unang Hirit (GMA 7′s morning show) the other day, Regine Tolentino narrated her experience in a mall where a closely man followed him around trying to get videos of her underskirt. Fortunately, the mall guards noticed the guy and arrested him.
Now that videos of women in uncompromising situations are very popular in the web, it is exasperating how people play tricks just to record such. Every day, the number of innocent women being victimized by such schemers grow.
I also remember that some years back, when sex videos uploaded in porn sites became popular, there were rumors and scares that cameras are installed in hotels, motels and other lodging houses illegally capturing intimate moments of lovers or in public or commercial bathrooms photographing private genitals. Such spy camera are of course hidden inconspicuously and you won’t know you were victimized until someone tells you you were seen in a porn site or in a forwarded email.
This is an example of such camera installed in a shower. Be careful okay.
Google Phone to Compete with Apple iPhone
The Apple iPhone Touch fever has been up since it was officially introduced in the Philippines by Globe Telecom in August. But even before then, unauthorized mobile distributors has already been selling iPhone at really lower price than Globe’s which ranges from 37,000 to 43,000.
Although many aspire owning this internet mobile device, the affordability of the handset discouraged them from buying. Globe offered slash prices of these sleek Wi-Fi capable handsets but their sale price remained very expensive.
You can just imagine how Google’s new internet phone would impact the Philippine Market. Google has released very recently their version of internet phone — the T-Mobile G1. Why buy G1 over the hot-selling iPhone? First, it’s so much cheaper and second, it’s powered by Google so you can expect better internet browsing experience.
Although G1 is not yet available in the Philippines, it is now sold in stores in the United States and cost only $179. In terms of appearance, G1 is slightly narrower but a bit thicker than its competitor.
Some of the features of the G1 includes: touch screen function, trackball navigator, high-speed internet browsing with Wi-Fi capability., 3.0 megapixel camera with photo-sharing and SMS or text mesaging services with email. Its best feature that is not present with iPhone – a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a winner for those who wanted simple and easy encoding.

Beauty Need Not be Expensive
While celebrities like Sunshine Dizon can afford liposuction every now and then and Gretchen Barreto parades her numerous cosmetic designer brands, most of us not highly paid women leaves our beauty at the far end of our priority lists.
It should not. Being beautiful somehow increases our self-confidence especially if we are working mothers and wearing make-up helps miraculously in improving appearance. The thing is good make-up are expensive, most beauty products are.
However, there are some ways in finding affordable beauty products that fits your budget:
- Visit a retail store and go to its clearance or markdown section. Most of the items in this part of the store on sale are actually good stuff, nothing wrong actually, just moved to this part of the store to give way to new stocks or new arrivals because store has limited space.
- Know the regular sale schedule of a store. For instance, for those close to Sta. Lucia East and Robinsons Metro East in Cainta, these department stores usually go on sale on paydays almost every other month.
- Try buying beauty products online because these branded cosmetics on sale are usually tad cheaper than their market price. I′ve bought different types of cosmetics and beauty products at Ebay myself.

A Lucky Mom-to-Be
last night, our family went to a party of our friend Weng, who celebrated for two things: she will soon be a proud mother of a baby boy in two months, and she just passed the board exam for guidance counsellors.
The proud couple, Mark and Weng, tied the knots just last year at the Mount Carmel Church in New Manila. Weng is my husband’s friend from high school and since I went out with their barkada years back when my husband and I was still dating, I already became part of their group.

Microchip for Pets in the Philippines
My morning ritual always includes watching morning show like Unang Hirit while eating breakfast. One of the segment I found in yesterday’s show that interested me was about microchips for pets. This technology has been available in other countries for quite some time now but it was only introduced in the Philippines not so long ago.
Pet lovers would muse at how small these microchips are — just the size of a small grain of rice. These chips will be injected through an almost regular size syringe so it will be placed under the skin of your pet.
What’s the use of the microchip? Primarily, for identification purposes. It is normal for pets to stray and when they do, the owner is lost in thought where it’s gone, how to find it, and if found, how to identify and convince others it is indeed her/his pet.Pet registration are good measures to claim pet ownership but many pet owners does not register their pets for different reasons. While pet tags are god measures to name you pet and proclaim to the neighborhood he or she is yours, these tags are often lost or misplaced. When these pets ran, chase or play, durability of pet tags are put to test and usually break.
The microchip comes with a remote-control-size scanner that reveals the barcode number of a pet that is microchipped. Some microchips have GPS capability which means you can track the location of your pet while others would even reveal the name, age, breed and other information of the scanned pet.
