27 May 2008 Wordless Wednesday: Children, Rondalla and the Color Violet

My first Wordless Wednesday entry. I love this photo for two things: first, my favorite color is violet, and second, this is symbolical for me — modern day children playing an archaic Filipino musical instrument. Photo location: Sariaya, Quezon.

25 May 2008 Switch to Firefox and Enjoy Better Browsing Experience.

Internet Explorer is probably the most popular browser up until now. It was the “browser I grew up with.” Microsoft popularized IE by making it part of the Microsoft OS (operating software) package. But these days, more and more people are thinking and making the switch from IE to a better browser. With the bugs and security fixes confronting IE, it is indeed time to look for a browser that offers more features and provides a better and secured navigation experience. Among the most popular alternative to IE is the Mozilla Firefox. When I started blogging, my friends already told me to switch to Firefox. They said its the perfect browser for bloggers but I was a little hesitant because I was so used to IE and for me, IE was the most user-friendly browser (also the reason why I buy Nokiea phones only). Anyway, after reformatting three times and still getting jaymyka virus incorporated in my IE browser, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and install Firefox. Indeed, I’m a living testimonial that Firefox is the best browser ever, especially for bloggers. See these top reasons why you should switch to Firefox now:

  • Tab Browsing, the answer for easy navigation and time-saving page switching experience.

Having too many windows open at a time is not only confusing, it is also time consuming and may cause slowing down of application. Quote from Mozilla’s homepage: “Tab browsing changes the way you use the internet by allowing you to open links on a page in background Tabs and then read them when you’re ready. No confusing new windows, no need for context menus. Just hold down Ctrl when clicking a link or use you middle mouse button.”

    firefox

  • Organized Integrated Search Engines.

The default search engine of Firefox that comes with its download is Google but you can always add more (see the snapshot). With Firefox, you do not clutter your browser by adding more search engines because they only take small space unlike with IE, once you install search engine toolbars, you get huge toolbars and a lot of add-ons that you won’t be able to use anyway.

    firefox

  • Available Plug-Ins for Bloggers and Blog Readers.

It is very helpful and time-saving to have toolbars in your browser that allow you to save or bookmark sites that you like as well as check site’s ranking and other information.

23 May 2008 Bluetooth Mania and the Top Bluetooth Gadgets

Bluetooth technology has become an instant sensation after the creation of cellular phones with this wireless technology. After mobile users saw the convenience of sending and receiving files via bluetooth, everyone wanted to have a device with this feature.

This article would give you two things.

  1. Understanding of Bluetootch Technology
  2. The Coolest, the Most Popular, and probably, the most Expensive Bluetooth Gadgets Available Today

What is Bluetooth Technology and how does it work? It is a wireless technology, a worldwide specification for a small form factor. It is a low cost solution that provides links to mobile devices as well as other electronic devices.

A bluetooth’s transfer rate depends on the class or capability of a particular device. The good news is that the speed of a bluetooth connection offers only a fraction of wireless standards so it won’t affect or pose a threat to your wireless network.

Now you know what a bluetooth is and what it can do, let me now show you the must-haves bluetooth gadgets:

  • Watch, Sony Ericsson, Music Edition MBW-150 Watch. This hot watch is a combination of a phone, accesories, bluetooth and watch. This music watch is also water resistant and absolutely stunning. This model works well with blue-tooth Sony Ericsson mobile phones. It vibrates each time you receive a new call or text message as well as control your mobile music.
  • mbw-150 sony ericsson

  • Camera, Kodak’s Easy Share V610 Camera. Transferring of photos is sometimes a hassle if you can’t find the USB cable or the memory card reader. With this new camera with bluetooth wireless technology, you can simply take photos and directly transfer it to your PC or printer via bluetooth. It’s also very portable with good resolution of 6 megapixels and comes with dual-lens technology.
  • V610 Easy Share Kodak Camera

  • Keyboard. Golan Technology Virtual Laser Keyboard. I remember a year back when I received forwarded emails with photos of futuristic keyboards that runs on laser lights, me and my friends actually gasped in disbelief. Not anymore, Golan Technology already came out with their Virtual Laser Keyboard (VKB) with the power of laser and infrared technology which projects a full-size keyboard onto any flat surface. Bluetooth tehcnology is used by this gadget to pair with laptops and compatible cell phones for typing messages on the go, what more, it even has realistic tapping sounds to give you the realistic impression of encoding!

Don’t you wish you have the money to buy all these cool stuff? I do! :D

21 May 2008 Blogging and Advertising

For bloggers, the glory comes after the blog is already established. Of course, this stage will come once you get good back links, regular readership, or even joined social networking sites like EcoQuest stories blog on digg dot com.

The best part of blogging, aside from promoting your advocacy sis monetizing it. Having an established blog allows a blogger to make profit through advertising. Here are some ways to earn from blogs through advertising.

  • Host a sponsored link or banner through space selling programs like google adsense and social spark. Without checking your blog, the links or banners in your site turn to profit for you day or night. It may be through cost per page impression or cost per click basis, it’s your choice.
  • Sell banner ads or sponsored links directly. If you already have an established blog, this scheme is very lucrative since there will be no more cuts on your profits. This type of advertising however applies to blogs with quite a sizable readership and with high page rank (PR). More work is also needed on this one since you will be the one to submit proposal to companies you may want to sell your advertising space.

Blogging is a lot more fun when the blogger earns from it. There are a lot of ways in monetizing from a blog and anything is possible. The blogger should be able to try which marketing or advertising style works for his blog.

20 May 2008 On Blogging and Domain Registration

Lately, I was drawn so much to blogging that I realized, I already bought three domains since I started blogging just some months back. With my very first domain, the reason for choosing and buying it was more about my passion for writing and love for my hometown. Breath Technology dot com is my second blog, I bought it because I wanted an additional blog where I can write about more niches other than traveling. I bought the third one because I was astounded that the domain name was still available while it was such a good name for a news blog.

Why was I surprised? Today, blogging is such a fad that in July 2003, the Pew Internet and American Life Project estimated the US blog population to be about 12 million American adults. In 1994 to 1995, the web grew from 700 sites to 12,000 sites and it is predicted that if this trend continues, there will be more than 200 million sites by 2010 (source: http://www.caslon.com).

Almost all domains with a good name is taken by now. By the time you think of registering your name, it is probably unavailable like what happened to George Jr. The father of George Lindenmann Jr. was only able to register his son’s domain to .org and not .com because it was already taken.

17 May 2008 Technology, Global Warming, and Our Part in Saving the World

Environmental issues are among the top concern these days. Global warming is on everyone’s lips and most of us wanted to pitch in to save the world from the wrath of mother nature. We need not become popular environment advocates or vegetarians or influential politicians to help in pacifying the effect of man’s cruelty to nature.

Here are some simple actions we can take to help reduce global warming, thanks also to Larry West for the ideas.

1. Practice these: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

These 3 Rs of waste management is very popular now but is not followed religiously yet in the household level where the bulk of garbage comes from. Among the things that we can do to help decrease waste is to buy products in plastic and disposable packaging in big sizes rather than the economy or minimal size. For example, buying shampoos in bottles instead of sachets would help minimize the production of garbage.

2. Plant a Tree or Raise a Garden

If you have the means and space to plant a tree, buy a seed now and plant one. If you have a green thumb and have some time for gardening, raise a garden. Do you know that even people in wheelchair or those having back problems or even having sight impairment, the elderly and the frail can do gardening? That is by building a raised garden bed which come in different forms and shapes and can benefit all people. Raised garden beds can be constructed directly onto concrete or paving if this currently exists where you wish to build your garden bed.

There are available online consultant in any area. In the business arena alone, there are marketing strategy consultants, management consultants, and labor and employment consultant. There are also consultants in the field of IT, education, health, tourism, engineering, design and many more.

For those needing personal or individual coaching, there are also consultancies that would help one direct his life or career, improve personality or even find the right job. Amazingly, there are even consultants for finding mates, relieving stress, finding joy in life… the list is endless.

The online consultancy fad has gone a long way. There were attempts to study and analyze the merits and even depth or intensity of this industry but its vastness and diversity made it quite not viable.

15 May 2008 Effects of Computer Radiation in the Skin

Do you know that long exposure to computer radiation causes harmful effects to our skin?

Did you ever notice that after a long time in front of your computer screen, your skin becomes dry? That is because radiation exposure over time can cause not only skin burn but also dry and wrinkled skin as well as photo aging. Computer radiation is just one example of electronic products that we use daily which expose us to harmful rays. Among these products that emit radiation and we are always exposed to are televisions, cellular phones, and microwave ovens.

Today, there are already studies showing that long exposure to radiation increases the risk of diseases like skin burn, aging of the skin, insomnia, headaches, anxiety and even the dreaded cancer and tumors. Radiation may also cause miscarriage and disorders.

Even if we spend for beauty treatment chemicals like oily skin solution if we are heavily exposed to radiation, we would not achieve the effect that we want. See these tips on how to lessen the risk of radiation in our skin:
