After the success of iPhone worldwide, different mobile companies tried stealing the limelight by coming up with different mobiles that can compete with the price or features of iPhone. There’s the T-Mobile G1  of Google and now, the new Blackberry Storm that is expected to take the mobile industry by storm.

Indeed, iPhone is still at the centerstage. It revolutionized the mobile industry by introducing mobile email and more. It even came out with the sleekest and the world’s most expensive mobile that is a dream for many including me.

Blackberry, a trademark for the serious and professional workaholics finally decided to compete with Apple and Google. What’s the advantage of Blackberry’s Storm?

While strolling at a night market, my husband and our friends were approached by some salesgirls distributing free multivitamins. I asked one of them “where’s my sample?” The girl told me to wait because she’s giving me a different one. When she returned, she handed me product samples of diet herbal teas.

We all looked at each other and laughed. Of course, I took the joke lightly, it happens all the time. Being a heavy set woman, I am a regular target for product sampling or slimming or dieting such as Decaslim pills. On that night, I was actually given 8 herbal teas by different promo girls.

The problem though is I don’t drink teas. I’m not a tea fan, nor of coffees or milk. Looks like the tea won’t make a touchdown on my slimming down plan.

I am not a reality show fanatic. In fact, after watching several episodes of the very popular Pinoy Big Brother House, I got tired of it. These days though, I am totally hooked by these two competing reality shows Fear Factor of ABS-CBN and Survivor Philippines by GMA 7. I am now an official Kapuso and Kapamilya.

Watching both shows gives me certain adrenalin rush and excitement. Probably because I get to watch people who are tough enough to face their fears and win over challenges that I can’t even dream of doing.

Allow me to share the good news with the world wide web — the Geek Mom, this blog’s author, just passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers or LET. Wow! Geek Mom is now a certified blogger with a license for teaching!

I am very happy indeed. I cried big time after reading my name in a website that posted the result for the September 2008 LET. I called my husband and my best friends to share the good news. I was so blessed to actually pass it.

A few weeks after the exam, I was still in doubt whether I’ll take it or not. I had the reviewers photocopied and neatly organized but unfortunately, I was too busy to actually read any of it. In short, I wasn’t prepared at all. I never had the chance of reviewing my notes, not even taking a peek. I already announced to my friends I would not take the exam.

My friends and my husband kept on motivating me and cajoling me to take it. They ranted and scolded me until I stopped answering text and chat messages. I’m very lucky they did not give up on me.

On the day of the exam, my husband skipped on his sleep to take me to my assigned university and I prayed to God before I started answering the tests. I was the first student in our room who finished everything 3 hours before the time. In truth, I found the test to be not too hard nor too easy thanks to God. I was okay, really okay after exam. I was smiling all the way from my room to the LRT station to our house. I was blessed that God helped me on that one.

I was very lucky to pass the exam most takers even paid to review for. I am lucky that I am now a licensed teacher aside from a trainor for six years. I am very lucky. Thank you Lord.

I now believe that as we age, more and more worries sprouts in our life. I miss my childhood days when I agonizes over silly and childish things like lost toys or food that I don’t desire.

As I age and as my responsibility adds up, my worries grows too. Just some weeks back, I was seriously considering getting a health insurance for all of us in the family. I realized that when anyone of us gets sick, I am totally unprepared for expenditures it entails. None of us have a health card that would help ease the burden of having a sick member of the family.

I was also thinking of getting a funeral insurance plan. I’ve been to a lot of wakes in the last months and I’ve realized that death is inevitable as well as costly. It’s ironic that I’m actually thinking about these things right now when I grew up with parents who were not even members of the social security system or SSS. Both my parents do not have a pension, any insurance, any properties or even savings.

My son keep on badgering me for weeks now to buy him a new watch. I have bought him watches in the past but since those watches were cheaply priced, they were immediately useless after less than a month.

Since Christmas is close, I am thinking of giving him a quality watch as a gift. In my rounds to malls though, I have not yet found range of Seiko watches for kids. This time, I wanted to buy him a quality watch which he would be able to use for a long time.

What I usually see in stores are fashion and character watches for kids but I wanted to buy him something that is quite sporty and not too childish looking. I hope that watch brands like Seiko would manufacture that sort. My son is really a sweet boy. He deserves the best.
