Cars… don’t we all drool over sleek and expensive looking cars? What about luxurious and futuristic cars that usually creates “ooohhhsss’ and “aaahhhsss” in movies like James Bond and Mission Impossible?
Cars are the ultimate toy for the “big boys.” Men are sometimes crazier of their cars then their wives. I wonder how they would react to this revolutionary model by the popular automobile company BMW.
BMW called their latest design GINA which concept revolves around the principle Geometry and Functions in “N” Adaptations. BMW translated the GINA philosophy into physical being thru the Light Visionary Model Concept which result is the car shown above. The Car’s visionary exterior body is totally innovative skinned by four large pieces of flexible material. This material stretch and contract based on a number of substructures that can move about on the chassis with electro and electrohydraulic controls.
The Visionary’s body is a fabric that is constructed from a waterproof and temperature-resistant mesh which is supported by a flexible metal-wire structure underneath that maintains the skin’s tension and smoothness. This model is striking both in terms of its outer skin and its utility function. Here are some of the good things about this model: headlights may be hidden or exposed; side markers to signal lane changes are not visible on the outside unless they are turned on when used which light shines through the translucent (but not transparent) cover; car’s airflow can be managed actively as the skin can be closed, opened or stretched based on need; rocker-panel shape can be adjusted for better aerodynamics; and the spoiler can be completely hidden when not in use.
The question now is, can we afford GINA? Hmm… I have to beg off on this one.
