How to Disable Hyperpromote.com Pop Ads in Your Blog Site?

For a while now, I have noticed that at times, a “Hyperpromote.com” pop-under ad would suddenly come to life. This is really annoying as first, I do not know the source of the ad which I thought at first to be a virus, and second, because it may discourage my visitors from going over my sites.

So, I did my research over the net and realized that my hyperpromote ad issue is not an isolated case. Bloggers have been researching and writing about the unwanted pop ads. The culprit? Bidvertiser.

Bidvertiser is a lot like Google Adsense which offers revenue sharing through placement of pay-per-click ads. Through other blogs, I learned that once you join Bidvertiser and place their ads, by default, you have allowed the website to put in your sites hyperpromote pop-under ads which would appear in your site once a day. I decided I don’t want the “higher conversion rate and pay” promise by the ad company by using pop ads so I’ve disabled it instantly.

For those who wanted to do it, here’s how to remove that annoying hyperpromote pop-under ads:

Log in to your Bidvertiser account.
Go to Publishers Center.
Way below, you will see your ads, select one ad first, then click Preferences button.
A new window will open, look for the question “Display Pop-Under Ads?” Select No.
Do the same for other ads in your account.

Now, we can both be pop ads free! Finally.

Google Adsense Now Serving Ads from Other Networks

A few days ago, Google Adsense released the latest news about its ad serving scheme for bloggers and website owners and developers. It was a welcome development which would allow multiple Google-certified ad networks to compete for display ad space.

Initially, this new feature from Adsense will be available for publishers located in North America and Europe only but I believe it will be soon available to publishers from Asia and other countries as well.

This advertising strategy will allow ad networks to compete for display ad space in the publishers’ site which would mean more ads will be eligible to appear on target pages. This would lead to potential higher earnings eventually. The scheme is called the Adwords program.

The good thing is the publisher would still be in control in either allowing or blocking ad networks to serve ads in his/her site(s) by going to the Ad Review Center in his/her account dashboard.

This new scheme from Google Adsense is another way of earning money for websites through ads but in order for the publisher to generate visits and clicks from visitors, the website owner must establish and popularize his website first through SEO works or search engine optimization. One effective tactic is to submit sites to free directory submission programs.

Filipinos are indeed among major Internet users all over the world. Wondering what are the top sites Pinoys from the Philippines Love to go to? Let’s find out from Alexa, the known and reputable web information company:

The top 100 sites in Philippines. The sites in the top sites lists are ordered by their 1 month Alexa traffic rank.

The 1 month rank is calculated using a combination of average daily visitors and page views over the past month. The site with the highest combination of visitors and page-views is ranked #1.

Top 1: Facebook of www.facebook.com. Facebook is a social networking site that connects people. If you’re still on Friendster and do not have an FB account, you’re considered Jurassic. Users love Facebook for its superb user interface features allowing easy and one-click status updates, photo and video uploads, sharing of links, and others stuff.

Internet Anywhere

More and more people’s lives are now dependent on internet. I am. When I go out of town and cannot go online for a few days, or even for a day, I feel that I’ve missed a lot and its true. A day cannot pass without my checking my online accounts or visiting my social networks.

Indeed, internet connection is a must-have for me, the reason why I have postpaid and prepaid broadband connectivity kits. Now that I’ve decided to focus more on blogging, I would definitely need to consider getting a Linksys router so I can access internet connection anywhere inside our house so I can work more conveniently.

First things first though, I need to get a new laptop before worrying about getting online. My old reliable dekstop computer was destroyed by the flood so I need a new one to get me going. That I have to raise big money for. Any suggestions?

Upgraded WP Version and New Theme for Breath Technology.com

Finally, the wordpress version for this blog is updated to 2.8.6, thanks to my kind and patient host, Neil of neilmaranan.com. The old version was really oudated and the functionality of the blog was affected so I really am thankful for the upgrade.

Along with the new version, I installed a new theme for this blog. It really is eye catching and unconventional, the theme name is Threat to Creativity created by MaxIsNow. At first, I thought since the theme is kinda different, it will be hard to manage but I found out it is actually easy to manipulate and I am enjoying using it.

I hope you like the new look of this blog. What about you, any plans for changing look for the coming year?

The Digital Camera Hunt

Today, I made the decision to buy a new digital camera. I have finally overcome my phobia of buying a new one because of my experience with our old Kodak Easyshare which got broken and was never fixed.

There are several reasons why I do not want before to buy a new digi cam. First, its expensive and I have to really work hard and tighten our budget to afford one. Second, I was waiting for it to downgrade its price, I know when there are so many models that will come out of the market, the price of digital cams will be lower and will be competitive.

As for the reasons why I wanted to buy a new cam, there are many. On top of it is to record my son’s life’s events. As a mom, it has been my habit to journal the milestones in my son’s life. My cellular phone did a fine job in doing it but it never gave me the photo quality and creativity I wanted. Next, I really need a good camera for blogging, it is a must right?

So, the first thing I did today and after work was browse among the collection of
digital cameras online to check the models and prices which suit my budget and requirement. So far, I have two cameras in mind which I keep on comparing. Hopefully, by the end of the weekend, I have decided which one to get. Any suggestions?

Firefox 3.5 Memory Problems

Since I started using firefox more than a year ago, I fell in love with its features. Its the dream browser for a blogger because of its various add-ons which are helpful for bloggers applying search engine optimization or seo on its blogs.

Needless to say, I was too excited to download and install its newest version Firefox 3.5 when it was fully tested and the problems during its beta stage addressed. Although I’m a fan of Firefox, I also downloaded the laterst version of Internet ExplorerÂ which is my back-up browser in case something bad happens (like hanging up) during browsing time. I was happy with the new features of IE like “add new tab” which I first experienced and liked with Firefox.

After installation, I immediately tried the 3.5 version and was happy that there are new features which made Firefox an almost perfect browser. I soon realized there’s a flaw — there are memory problems with the new version as I do not understand why after some time, even if I am not opening too many browsers or too many applications, a notification will appear saying the memory is low and then, firefox will either hang or quit.

A Farewell of Thanks for Former President Corazon ‘Cory’ Aquino

This invite to ‘blog a yellow ribbon of thanks’ to former President Corazon ‘Cory’ Aquino is an idea of my good friend Neil. It’s a good thing I was invited to join this blog meme.

Through this blog, my family would like to express our gratitude for Tita Cory for sacrificing a part of her life for the nation which she loved so much. She will always be part of the battle for our country’s freedom and we will always be thankful for this. I may not be present today to march with the thousands of Filipinos sending her to her resting place, the Manila Memorial, but I am a proactive supporter watching her funeral’s history from day one.

Goodbye Tita Cory and I know, you’re already in God’s hands.

Using WordPress Latest Version 2.8.2 Frustrations

I have always been a WordPress fan. In fact, two of my self-hosted blogs are under this blog hosting platform including the breathtechnology.com.

I have always been satisfied and happy with its features, particularly, because it’s user friendly — easy to manage and manipulate. I compare it with using a Nokia cellular phone which everyone knows how to use. To sum it up, my blogging experiences were defined by WordPress.

Two weeks ago though,Â wordpress prompted myÂ other blog to upgrade its wp version. I had no choice but to upgrade. In the process, I lost the articles and widgets I wasn;t able to Â backup before the upgrade. I did not know I’m in for more woes because of the upgrade.

What I love about the new wordpress is that it allows you to install your plugins and insert photos and videos without using a third-party ftp program. Very convenient and it saves bloggers time. After the upgrade though, I realized something must beÂ wrong with the installation as after the 2.8.2 upgrade, I can’t upload photos anymore and install plugins without using a third-party ftp software. To add to that, I was very disappointed with how the widgets works. Everytime I install a new widget, I have to manually save one-by-one every widget in the sidebar as each widget should be saved separately. In the old versions, widgets are not saved separately so in just one click, you can save everything in you sidebar(s). It’s exhausting to manually save every widget (14 clicks if you have 14 widgets) whenever you add or remove one in your sidebar. I even panicked when I first experienced this unwelcome change when my widgets were gone after adding a new one in my sidebar.

I believe I’d be experiencing more “flaws” as I get myself familiarized with WordPress newest versions. I hope I’m wrong. What about you, do you have any stories about using WordPress?

A Stressful Weekend and A Positive Outlook in Life

Have you ever worked so hard you feel like throwing up because ot tiredness? This is what I’m feeling since the start of this week. I feel so stressed and so worn out.

This week is particularly challenging for me since I was bombarded with so much work. After my super funfilled trip in Iloilo, I had to immediately take the place out of my mind as I face the problems and jobs I left in Manila. I had to make the prelim exam for my teaching classes, had to design and facilitate a SWOT workshop and youth leadesrhip training, and the most depressingof all — i had to fix my other blog which was abandoned by a fake web host and reverted back by wordpress for untimely upgrade.

These events made me very stressed, to the point of being sick. My health immediately deteriorated and I believe I lost some weight as if I just drank an effective appetite suppressant. The good thing though, all these challenges once again made me felt I am still very lucky in life that there are so many things needing my attention which means I am blessed with opportunities. I am also thankful that we were able to save parts of my blog so eventhough there’s so much work to do, my blog remained on the face of the blogosphere. Life is sweet. Thanks to God.
