14 Jun 2009 Addicted to “Adik Sa ‘Yo” Comedy-

I was up very late last night finishing the replay marathon of the new teleserye of GMA channel 7, Adik Sa Yo (Addicted To You). The show is a comedy love story and stars the daughter of the vatican actress Jean Garcia, Jenica Garcia, the hunk Dennis Trillo, actor Marvin Agustin and actress Jolina Magdangal.

For some time now, my primetime TV viewing has been dominated by ABS-CBN channel 2. I am a fan of May Bukas Pa (There would be tomorrow), Only You, and Tayong Dalawa (The Two of Us). I am not really a fan of teleseryes but I find it relaxing to go home after a full day and watch a TV show you really like. I am happy that for some time now, I actually have shows I follow.

10 Jun 2009 Stress-Free Weekend Anyone?

Workaholics are awaiting for this Friday’s non-working holiday. As a working mom, I really look forward to it except that just this afternoon, our training team got another request to facilitate an out-of-town teambuilding seminar on Friday. *Sigh.

It was a very stressing week. I took on a new job (which I would share with you in my next post, I am pretty excited about this) plus I have decided to finally take my masteral degree so I’m pretty worn out right now. I am juggling a lot of responsibilities since last week, being a working mom who still needs to work at home doing household chores is taking a toll on me.

Right now, all I can think of is a getaway weekend. One that would allow me to take a good deep breath and unwinding. I remember a quote I read somewhere about vacation that goes: “Vacation used to be a luxury, however, in today’s world, it has become a necessity.” more…

09 Jun 2009 School Days Rules

Coming from a long vacation, expectantly, our children are now used to sleeping late, even if they need to come to school early. My son, for instance, would not sleep earlier than ten in the evening. And if you allow him, he would really sleep as late as four in the morning. Whew!

Now that his classes starts at 7:30 AM, I really need to regulate his sleeping time so he can complete his needed ten hours sleep before I wake him up at 6:00 AM to prepare for his class. I started this regulation last night and I also suffered. My son won’t sleep without me beside him and he won’t sleep too when the television is on so that means I have to sleep early too and I can’t watch my favorite TV shows. Sacrifices!

08 Jun 2009 The H1N1 Scare in the Philippines

Unlike in the last weeks, the hype of the H1N1 Virus scare is now very eminent in the Philippines as the numbers of affected people in the country slowly but continuously grow.

The H1N1 is an influenza A virus subtype and is the most common cause of influenza or flu in humans. Some strains of this virus are common in human which actually includes the strain(s) responsible for the flu pandemic in 1918 which unfortunately killed about fifty to hundred million people worldwide (source: wikipedia). This fact plus the number of casualties of this year’s spread of H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu, made the whole world panicky.

Although much has been done in the Philippines to avoid possible intrusion of the virus in the country, up to date, more than 20 identified virus carrier and infected has been identified and quarantined including the students from La Salle and an executive from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Here in our place in Marikina, everyday, there are rumors that there’s already an H1N1 carrier and sadly in the city and because of the scare, people get very worried about these hearsays.

03 Jun 2009 Health Alert: Skin Problems and Solutions

For some weeks now, I’ve been washing my face with just plain antibacterial body soap. Not because I am vain, it is because my preferred facial wash is already drained and I just don’t have the budget yet for these expensive skin care products.

I thought it would be okay, that the body soap would not do my face any harm, that was a fervent wish on my part. Unfortunately, my fear was realized as blemishes and acne one-by-one sprung on my face. After a week of plainly washing my face with a regular body soap, this what happened and I can blame no one but myself.

25 May 2009 Distressing

The past two weeks was very tiring for me, work wise, career wise, and personal wise. It was a challenging week but I was very fortunate that I was armed with prayers and faith that I was able to surpass everything with a smile on my face.

I thought yesterday, after finishing all my household chores (which includes finishing a mountain of a week-long laundry), that I need to distress. Reward myself for undergoing and accomplishing so much in the past weeks. It’s time to unwind, a time for relaxation.

After enrolling my son (finally!), I asked my husband to go to the mall with me. He was hesitant at first because he planned of staying at home the whole day in the house but seeing my dire desire to go, he obliged. We watched the movie first, the one I’ve been dying to see since the its first showing day — Angels and Demons based from my favorite novel by Dan Brown. My husband tolerated my mumbling and chirping while the movie was shown. Since I liked the book so much, I can’t wait for my husband to finish the whole movie before I tell him how the series of events unfolded. I was very happy the movie was not disappointing which usually happens when a really good book is turned into a movie.

21 May 2009 Old Houses of San Juan
 |  Category: lifestyle  | Tags: ,  | One Comment

Our trip to San Juan Batangas brought me back to my dream of owning a house with a little provision for gardening and a garage. In San Juan, we saw a lot of old houses with nice lawns and elegant gates. Since they wanted to retain the ancestral feel of the houses, the modification or renovation were directed towards the lawns and the gates.

Even when we were back to Manila, the houses we saw remained in my mind. My husband and I thought it would be real nice to actually have a house like that so long as they are mesothelioma free, ones that do not use health hazards like asbestos.

Each time I would go to malls, I approach exhibits by real estate developers hoping to find a good-enough house and lot I can afford loaning through Pag-Ibig. I am usually disappointed though because the ones I usually like are priced way too high even if I retire from work. Sad!

21 May 2009 The Newest American Idol: Kris Allen

The American Idol just ended its 8th Season today. The result was surprising and totally unexpected. Since day 1 of the presentations of the finalists, Adam Lambert consistently dominated the stage and he was predicted a shoe-in winner of this season.

Apparently, the American voters  thought otherwise. Kris Allen, with his all-American good looks stole the hearts of America and became the dark horse’ competition winner. The 23-year old musician  from Arkansas defeated Lambert with a record of  nearly 100 million votes during the show’s finale.

Rumors spread that Lambert is gay which made Allen the more clean-cut between them being a college student and devout Christian. Although Lambert made millions of people awed by his musical and theatrical talents, Allen won praises for his performances with his acoustic guitar and for rearranging popular tunes like Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time” and Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.”
