Downgrading from Vista to XP? Pay First.

Most laptops sold today, if not all,  are preinstalled with Windows Vista as its operating system (OS). I have heard a few friends already complaining about the performance of this OS. Said their PCs are slower because of this.

I can’t say anything yet about these feedbacks because I haven’t used Vista yet in my PCs. Since XP was launched years back, I became an XP fan and is not yet forced to upgrade. The feedbacks I’m hearing about Vista too are not motivating too.

Were you part of those thousands, if not millions, who bought laptops with preinstalled Vista? Are you satisfied with its performance? Are you now planning a downgrade? If you are, read this news first about Emma Alvarado who bought a laptop from Lenovo on June 20 of last year. She was charged by the said company $59.25 for downgrading from the preinstalled Vista in the said laptop to Windows XP. She is now suing Microsoft.

You’d probably ask why Emma is suingMicrosoft instead of Lenovo, the reasoning of the complaint was this:

Consumers have encountered numerous problems using the Vista operating system, and these problems have been widely publicized in various media outlets. As a result, many consumers would prefer to purchase a new computer pre-installed with the Windows XP operating system or at least not pre-installed with the Vista operating system. However, Microsoft has used its market power to take advantage of consumer demand for the Windows XP operating system by requiring consumers to purchase computers pre-installed with the Vista operating system and to pay additional sums to ‘downgrade’ to the Windows XP operating system.”

In short, Microsoft knows that XP is far more superior than Vista, yet, it has somehow manipulated the situation by requiring new laptops powered by Windows to use Vista instead of XP. Hmmm… Remember the Internet Explorer issue, looks somehow the same to me. All PCs with Windows OS are preinstalled with IE as its internet browser but slowly, Firefox and other browsers are becoming more popular as explorer is prone to virus and other attacks.

Let’s see how events turn as Microsoft wait to be served with Alvarado’s lawsuit. In the meantime, I love my XP and I’m happy I did not upgrade. Are you?
