Forget the wireless headsets, make way to the newest in earphone and headset technology, the NTT DoCoMo’s eye-controlled earphones.
While some still cannot get over the fact of seeing people walking alone and talking over their headsets as if they gone mad, you will soon see people gazing from left to right or rolling their eyes for no apparent reason. Don’t worry, they are actually harmless, they are simply trying to control their music players using their eyes as navigators. If you think touchscreen is totally cool, what about eye-controlled players?
Japanese are really wild inventors and NTT DoCoMo invented something that is worth talking about. The technology was showcased in Barcelona, Spain but the Japanese company has no plans of introducing it in the market yet.
NTT DoCoMo, a Japanese wireless carrier, demonstrated the headphones this week at the world’s largest wireless trade show, Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It doesn’t have any specific plans to making it publicly available yet.
The company’s researchers have developed a set of prototype in-ear headphones that can detect and measure changes in the body’s electrical state which happen when one moves his/her eyes. They used this technology to control the MP3 or music player on a mobile phone. For instance, you can look from right to left to pause your music. Look right, then right again, to skip to the next track. Roll them clockwise to raise the volume.
