Very soon, the newest Apple Craze will hit the Philippines. Not surprisingly, the newest gadget from the company which popularized pricey MacBook and iPod is already in the must-have list of Pinoy techies and socialites.

Following the popularity of the iPod and netbooks, Apple invented a tablet which brings both features together and named it the Apple iPad. No sir, no incorrect spelling there as people may think there is. It really is spelled as iPad. Take a look at this new baby –

Yes, it sure is pretty and eye-catching, an Apple product signature. Let’s get to know this iPad a little bit more shall we? Let’s start with some of its outstanding features are:

  • Touch screen (an Apple original)
  • 9.7 inch Led backlit IPS display
  • 1.5 lbs. and .5 inch screen (very portable)
  • Watch movies, surf the net and flick photos
  • Run more than 12,000 applications

There you have it, the outstanding features of the iPad Tablet. Let us now discuss the cons shall we? Here are some excerpts from a review made by Aaron Vronko, CEO of Rapid Repair, an iPod and iPhone repair shop and published at SFGate.com

  • LCD Screen: An E-reader Handicap. “The iPad has just a 10-hour battery life, although it might last slightly longer when used as an e-reader but not significantly longer,” Vronko says. “Most serious e-readers offer anywhere from the mid-20s to 40 hours.”
  • Where’s the Camera? The most obvious omission: the iPad is missing a camera. One of the reasons for its absence probably has to do with cost, says Vronko. Apple likely would have had a tough time hitting the $500 price point for a device that included a camera.
  • Big Screen, Small Thinking.  Apple went with the cheaper 1024-by-768 pixel screen resolution-”basically, an old computer monitor-type of resolution,” Vronko says-instead of the newer 1280-by-720 resolution. Admittedly, the higher resolution would be negligible on the iPad’s 10-inch screen.
  • Still No Flash. “Still no Flash support? Come on, guys,” Vronko says. “Without Flash, it’s really not a full web experience.”
  • If you want to read the full review, visit their website. For now, it is plainly obvious that although iPad seem a good catch, its $500 price is not exactly worth your money as you can buy a good looking and more capable netbook with that price range.

Let’s see how iPad tablet will fare with the Philippine market even after disclosing its weaknesses.
