Heard of iPod’s Dirty Little Secrets?

Some months back, while shopping for school supplies for my son, my beloved MP4 was stolen at National Book Store Sta. Lucia East. I was totally sad because my MP4 has been a wonderful companion making my dull moments lively.

Right there and then, I knew I had to find a replacement. Automatically, I thought of buying an iPod. I love the design of the 3rd Generation iPod and I was already convinced I would buy one when I stumbled upon the site “http://ipodsdirtysecret.com” where the Neistat Brothers exposed the dirty little secret of iPods. This were written by the Neistats in their site:

In September of 2003 the battery in my first generation ipod would hold a charge for no longer than one hour. I brought the iPod into the Apple store in Manhattan for repair and was told they did not currently offer a battery replacement and my best option was to buy a new ipod. I then called the Apple Care 800 number regarding this issue and was told the same. I then sent my ipod to the Apple Executive office addressed to Steve Jobs with a note explaining my situation and requesting a replacement battery. The Apple Executive office contacted me via telephone to explain that Apple does not repair or replace dead ipod batteries and that it was policy of the company to recommend to the customer to purchase a new ipod when the battery fails. I then purchased a third party replacement battery, which was not endorsed by Apple. After the complicated installation, my ipod did not work at all, even when plugged in.

In response to this experience my brother Van and I made the short film “iPod’s Dirty Secret.” After we finished production of the film, Apple began offering a battery replacement program for the ipod for a fee of $99 and an extended warranty for the iPod for $59.

Imagine that, I would buy an iPod for 10 to 20K and once its battery dies, its as good as gone! Philippine buyers of course would not spend for shipping to U.S. which would cost about 100 dollars or more on top of the $99 replacement fee.

Tsk… no wonder a lot of music lovers now settle for 2GB MP4 players which can be conveniently bought at CD-R King for only 1,400 to 1,600 pesos. These players are available at different colors and with a slot for SD card which is also priced cheaply, 2GB memory for only 250 pesos. Imagine, you already have a 4GB MP4 player for only 1,600 pesos with an FM radio player in contrast to the popular disposable iPod.

This is great info. Consequently, if you’re in need of ipod repair or ipod parts, I’d give a strong recommendation to ipodcorrectors.
