holy week philippines palaspas

Filipinos observe different traditions for the celebration and observation of Holy Week. Among the most popular are the palaspas, visita iglesia (bisita iglesya in Filipino), pabasa ng pasyon, procession of saints, fasting and penitence.

Palaspas are decorative palm fronds. It’s a catholid tradition to wave the palaspas during the palm Sunday mass to commemorate Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. The palaspas blessed during the mass are even placed in front of doors and windows and are believed to have powers against evil spirits.

Still a blessed holy week to all of us.
