How popular Facebook is in the Philippines? It is now even use to send messages to Presidents of the Philippines — both the outgoing and incoming ones.
Two Facebook fan pages were created to allow FB users to send their messages to May 2010 presidential winner Benigno ‘NoyNoy’ Aquino and the outgoing president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo popularly known as PGMA.
The facebook site for soon-to-be president Benigno Aquino is titled ‘Dear NoyNoy Aquino’ created by RockEdPhilippines.org. The page is created to allow Filipino FB users send their suggestions to the incoming president. Here are the creators’ notes:
This is a page that can collate thoughtful suggestions you may want to send to the incoming President. Let’s optimize democracy.
Tell the President. Even if you didn’t vote for him – he won majority of the votes – now that we’re here, let’s at least share information. If the Liberal Party realizes that this is a valuable source of information, they might use this as a valid reference.
If most of the comments are just trash – then this site will be dismissed by LP as not legitimate. It’s up to you, (people who post) to make it legit or not.
Who knows, democracy just might work.
Since its creation a few days ago, the site has already more than 80,000 fans and is being ‘liked’ by more users every hour. Dear NoyNoy’s facebook wall is flooded by messages from Pinoys of different ages.
If the site for NoyNoy is positively popular, the facebook page of Dear Gloria is on a downside. Fanned by only less than 5,000 people, the site usually receive negative comments and feedback about the outgoing president of the Philippines. Malacanang Palace is not taking the criticisms via ‘Dear Gloria’ page lightly. Deputy Presidential Spokesman Gary Olivar said in an interview: “It’s their right and their freedom to be as FOUL and as STUPID as they want. The Palace will not join them in the gutter.”

As for me, I am taking the whole issue in a positive manner, that Filipinos are now pro-active as watchdogs in governance and although at times. The Philippine president should learn how to listen genuinely, think critically, judge soundly, and act accordingly, to rule this country well and good.
