Maintaining A Healthy Heart

The other day, I was surprised to see the ambulance in front of my neighbor’s house. I was worried because I know that my neighbor has suffered a mild stroke in the past and since then, she needed constant blood pressure monitor.

Heart disease is common to Filipinos. We love delicious food and usually, these food are contains bad cholesterol. We may be eating healthy sometime but it’s totally impossible to eat healthy all the time. Eating healthy is of course, should be part of our health plan to reduce hart attacks.

Eating healthy or staying on a diet need not necessarily be expensive. I remember in the past, I longed of trying the South Beach Diet but it is one diet that is bad for my budget. Try these inexpensive eating habit tips that would help us prevent high blood pressure and risk heart problems:

1. Cut on junk food intake. When doing your shopping rounds, create a list of what you need to do and stay on it. Avoid stopping by the junk food section.

2. Drink a lot of water. Substitute milk for soft drinks. Look for the type of milk that taste delicious so you and your kids would enjoy drinking it. You may also eat food that contains a lot of water like watermelon or salads even gelatins.

3. Buy and eat fruits in season. Fruits are always healthy to eat but may be expensive especially if you choose the ones that are not in season.

4. Eat beans because these are the best sources of protein. You may also use beans a s a substitute for meat on some occasions. It is recommended to eat beans at least 4 times
a week. However, if you experience gas after eating beans, try to wash the remaining ones, cover them with water and bringing the water to a boil, then
drain it off and refill the pot.

6. Go for a fish diet. Fish are cheap and delicious.

7. For for a peanut butter diet! It’s great to use as a sandwich spread and its inexpensive.

We don’t need a big budget to start on a healthy lifestyle. All we need is a little ingenuity and
some effort. :)
