A makeover has been a favorite topic over dinner for some time now. My husband and I has been discussing some plan for improvement for our small abode.
What is challenging is that our budget is quite small and drastic changes (which I have in mind) would definitely not work. Whenever we drive around, I always look at beautiful houses and admire their structure with a faint hope that my house would somehow look like a small version of those in the future.
I especially love Victorian houses with its classic look and elegance. Having a taste for interior designing, I adore houses with concepts which design and colors blend very well with each other. Sometimes, function and beauty do not go along well with each other and this sometimes leave houses look cluttered or unattractive.
This is the reason why people hire designer and architects to plan for the total look of their home. It is such a waste to build an expensive house that would not look eyecatching in the end. For instance, storm shutters are very important for any abode but you just don’t put a regular looking shutter in your exterior or it would waste the whole design concept. Maybe because I am an artistic and creative person, I just don’t want a plain looking house no matter how expensive it is. Even with my tight budget, I always scout for inexpensive, yet attractive looking pieces of decorative hardware. My father was a carpenter and he almost single-handedly constructed our house and although we were tight on budget at that time, he was able to carve a nice looking door with an artistic looking knob installed. It is one of my greatest memory of my father.
At times, you can tell the kind of a person one is by looking at his home. We decorate and design our home according to our taste and preference. It is like choosing the kind of clothes we are going to wear. It is my fancy to go home to a beautiful house that would magically take my stress and worries away, my home to dreamland. Maybe, with some more hardwork, I’d be able to save some this year so we can start our home renovation and if that day happen, you would surely see the photo of my new home here.
