Motivating Children to Read

There was a book fair held in the vicinity of my workplace. When I was still single, I used to visit bargain bookshops regularly for some good reading materials. These days, I still love shopping for books, but mostly now for my son.

It’s funny that when you become a mom, your tendency is to fill your house with children’s book that your child won’t be able to read in years. I bought him encyclopedias and story books in hard bound. Now that my son is five, he already developed liking for reading but not much. I heard that to be able to motivate your child to read, you must show him that you enjoy it too. His reading experiences would be enjoyable too if you would read books together. I am sometimes guilty of this.

If you’re child is just starting to read, buy him books that suits his level. There are books now for kids that are categorized according to age and level of difficulty. My son’s godmother bought him two books from National starring Buzz Light Year and Spongebob which writings are suited for a beginner on reading like him. Reading books is forever a good habit and we should try to encourage our children to love it.
