PDF Files Now Searchable! Thanks to Google.

Everyday, my fondness for Google grows. Today, it’s more than overflowing.

Google announced the use of a new technology in their search engine that would allow users to search the world wide web for PDF files. Good news right! This would definitely make researching online easier as many credible authors and reliable documents are uploaded in the internet in PDF format to protect the source.

Using an optical character recognition software or the OCR technology, PDF files will be indexed and searched and may be used for Google Book Search, a helpful news for those who love reading ebooks in PDF format.

Prior the introduction of OCR technology, scanned documents like those in PDF format rarely  show in search results  since the search engines like Google has no way of knowing what it contains. This will all change now as OCR make it possible for online researchers find web-hosted document in PDF searchable.

As google says, this step is towards making world’s information accessible and useful. Amen to that. :)
