
Upon receiving this month’s billing, many Filipino consumers reacted against the unbelievable double or triple increase in their billing cost. The increase is ridiculous and no matter how Meralco propagandize that the increase in charges are not directly going to them, who will believe them?
To protect against this increase, bloggers and social networking sites users have put up a Facebook page to express dissatisfaction against Meralco. To join, click this. I did not hesitate joining this protest as I have long ago been dissatisfied with Meralco and the government bodies regulating energy in this country. For one, why on earth honest consumers like us pay for stolen electricity consumed by ‘jumpers,’ those with illegal connections? Shouldn’t Meralco ran after them with vigor and increase their security measures and not bombard their loyal consumers with unreasonable charges ordinary ‘Juan’ cannot comprehend no matter how many times Meralco explain.
How much more increase are we expecting from Meralco this year? Isn’t it they are continuously reminding the public for further increase in electricity charges? Goodness, we are now simply working our ass off to pay our Meralco bill and yet, we are still experiencing random brownouts!
By doing a simple computation, I believe that about 12 to 25% of a person’s income, is simply going to Meralco bill which is very unfair! Isn’t it power/energy is a common commodity? Why is it eating a big chuck of the household income?
Enough of my rants, join the protest and let’s see where expression of discontentment over Meralco will lead us.
