Everyday, I receive at least three (3) invitations from friends, or even strangers, to join social networking sites. This goes to show how popular social networking sites are these days. Friendship over the internet has become rampant and people these days obviously love the idea of online affinity.
In the Philippines, among the most popular is Friendster but Facebook is catching up fast especially since its being endorsed by popular celebrities like Ruffa Gutierrez. Now, becoming popular are social networking sites that allows you to chat immediately with other members like Twitter and Plurk.
People love interacting with each other now at the cyberspace. Its really fun getting to know people from different places and different parts of the world in the click of the mouse and tweaking of the keyboard. A lot of friendships and relationships are established daily over the web.What’s sad though is that these social networking sites are being used also by scrupulous individuals or groups with ill intention and these frauds and scammers already victimized a lot of people.
I would say joining social networking sites is indeed fun especially when you already establish friendships with people worth trusting. But in both real and virtual world, we have to be choosy and careful in communicating and establishing connection with strangers. Technology is very helpful in a lot of ways but its also abused and now proliferating as a medium for techno criminals.
