For weeks now, a friend’s status on her yahoo messenger was this: “I want my Toyota Innova this year!” It’s interesting to note that years ago, we were simply simple students of a government-owned state university with little allowances and barely surviving college expenses.
I guess time really fly so fast. Ten years after graduating from tertiary education, now my old friends can shout on top of the messenger their plan for the year, which in my point of view and in my way of life, is already too extreme and yes, simply a dream. In my book, raising money for a simple beat-up second-hand car is not even achievable this year, what more a brand new Innova. Sigh…
I am happy that some of my friends already achieved well in life and are doing good financially and career-wise. Although I am far from their caliber in terms of economic viability, I am not sorry for myself either in terms of career and nobility of work. As a trainor, I don’t even hit the hefty 20K a month salary, far below what call center agents are getting, but the good thing is I’m earning more than what money can buy — people, prayers and peace of mind and life.
At times too, I wish I can simply put in my status I want a dream home somewhere in the Caribbean or a vacation place at the Outer Banks rentals, that would be really nice. Grand dreams are simply too grand for me. I have lived a modest life since I was young and wanted a simple life until now. Not that I do not want lavish things like expensive cars or beautiful house, I definitely want to experience having them also but I think it’s a gift to be contented with what life has to offer so long as you still have the capacity to live your life happily and with peace in your heart.
For now, my ym status would still simply be: it’s gonna be a wonderful day. Have a wonderful day to you too.
