My other blog, Marikenya.com , was recently victimized by a fraud hosting service. Fortunately, this blog was not victimized as I was planning to transfer it too to that scamming company. Although I was shocked by the event, I tried recuperating fast and tried to work on what’s left.
After a whole day of putting everything I can to the blog, I left for Iloilo for a 3-day seminar which I totally enjoyed. When I came back, I was stunned when I checked Marikenya.com and found out that my blog reverted to the state before I worked on it after the hosting scam. To further explain, my former web host (owned by a friend of mine) was able to secure a backup of my blog before I transferred to the new hosting company dated March 2009. When the fraud hosting company desolated my blog and ran away with my blog’s database, my blog left the face of the net. Good thing my friend absorbed me back, hosted my blog again and installed the backup database dated March 2009. I lost all my articles, photos and plugins from late part of March to present.
Anyway, I pulled all my strenth together and worked on the blog and I was satisfied with the result before I left for Iloilo last Friday. I was hysterical when I checked Marikenya when I went back last Sunday and found out that all my work before I left Iloilo were gone. The blog reverted back to the state before I put on all the changes because WordPress propted that an upgrade should be made and it was a must since WordPress won’t allow you an access to your site if you don’t upgrade.
Unfortunately, the upgrade was not announced before the prompt to allow the blog owner do a backup of its database. In short, everything you have worked for after the upgrade (if you were able to do a backup of your latest posts or plugins or widgets) will be lost. That’s what happened to Marikenya.com and that’s what made me cry after my happy and relaxing trip.
The morale of this post, always backup your database and your posts. Period.
