Young Trends

Young people these days are into a lot of things. Trend, fashion, technology, romance, vices. Too bad they’re not much into studying, going to church, or volunteering for good causes.

I guess I had my share of teenhood, not as wild and not as colorful, but a fair share. Since I came from a poor family, my childhood memories were quite simple too. No expensive trips or hangout at exclusive bars. I was lucky to be part of a young group of teens who fostered camaraderie and develop young community leaders. The only vices I was able to taste but not get addicted to was occasional drinking of alcoholic beverages and smoking of funky teen cigars such as Swisher Sweets.

These little adventures of mine are nothing compared to what young people now engage in. Teens change cellular phones regularly without thinking of the expensive cost, dress fashionably following the trend such as the Emo look, get totally drunk and wasted, and engage in premarital sex without thinking of consequences. As a mother, I’m very alarmed with these trends believing good Filipino values are now being forgotten by our young people.

The roles of parenting is very important to remind our young generation what Filipinos should be made of.
